is a 13-year-old diagnosed with severe autism with comorbid behavioral & mental health conditions.
His parents are looking for someone to support him at home and in the community (90265 area); multiple shifts are available 24 hours per day, including awake overnight shifts, so even if you can only cover some hours, please apply! Both full and part time positions are available.
You will be assisting C.
with academic activities, daily needs & functional living skills (including toileting, feeding, house chores, etc.
) in a natural environment.
Due to C's autism, he receives funding from the Westside Regional Center (https:
//westsiderc.
org/) to meet his needs and for this service and staff.
He is part of the Self-Determination Program (https:
//westsiderc.
org/about-the-program/), which is why his family can select their own staff.
Specifically, you will be hired by a Financial Management Service (FMS), Cambrian, as a W-2 employee paid hourly at a rate of up to $36.
00 per hour; payment will be weekly.
You must be able to pass a background check.
Cambrian will be your Employer of Record and who you will report on your taxes.

Loveable & almost always happy, with a great smile you will frequently see.
Very active and affectionate; if you don't love receiving hugs, this might not be the best fit for you! A water baby - he loves water play, the beach, etc.
Often found watching YouTube and looking at photos A foodie! He is learning to participate in easy meal preparation, and he's always eating.
Willing to learn, with the right, patient, person who is teaching him.
You need to give him time to warm up & trust you.
He may be guarded at first - but if you are natural & easygoing with him, he will come around.
Sensory seeking.
He will be very happy if you do arts and crafts, stickers, and other sensory activities with him! Not always able to communicate and/or be understood, as he doesn't use words, which, along with triggers, can lead him to resort to challenging behaviors to get his needs across.
He uses ProLoQuo2Go via iPad to communicate, as well as basic sign language.
YOU NEED TO:

is fun and it will be better for both of you if you enjoy being with him.
This is not a good job for you if you want to be on your phone all day.

wants someone who will physically play with him.
Be quick on your feet; C.
is very fast on his and sometimes will run away, so he must have constant supervision to ensure his safety.
Not be intimidated by challenging & aggressive behaviors, such as self-injurious behaviors (banging his head on the floor, biting his arm, bouncing on his knees, banging his head on the wall, punching himself) & aggression (biting your shirt, pulling hair, etc.
) You must be willing & able to intervene (without providing unnecessary feedback or attention) with a 5-foot-4-inch tall, 112 pound young man who is very strong, particularly when agitated.
Be flexible and patient, while remaining firm and giving clear directions.
Be calm and don't raise your voice, while remaining firm and consistent in what you ask him to do.
Be organized and prepared for each day Know that C's family is here to help you! To them, his autism is not a disability; it's a different ability.
Please ask his family if you have questions or concerns; they love him just like he is, and they think you will too.
There will always be another adult with you & C.
, and the family would love your help to teach him academic & communication skills.

NEEDS:
Constant supervision.
He may put things in his mouth that are not edible, wander away or elope, etc.
in the blink of an eye.
Hands-on assistance with personal care tasks, including toileting, eating, etc.
It is important to foster C.
's independence, so as much as possible, you will be trying to teach him to complete these tasks, rather than doing them for him.
Help to be safe in the community.
He is not aware of his surroundings and will need assistance to avoid traffic on the long walks in the neighborhood that he enjoys, as well as other occasional outings.
To follow a routine & for you to follow-through, calmly, with tasks and requirements.
